Centaur’s First Aid Trainer Saves Life
We are very proud to say that one of our own first aid trainers put his skills to use and managed to save a mans life when he was severely injured in a road traffic incident in Leyland over the summer. Paul Rigden arrived on the scene as part of Lancashire Fire and Rescue crew that was dispatched to the incident. Upon arriving at the scene Paul assessed the situation and acted appropriately to give the correct first aid needed. As a result the casualty involved in the accident is now on the road to recovery.
First aid is a life saving skill and having the appropriate knowledge to assess the situation and be able to carry out the appropriate procedures correctly is all part and parcel of what you learn on a first aid course. Paul Rigden arrived at the scene of an incident involving two cars with Lancashire Fire and Rescue. Others were worried about moving the casualty incase they caused spinal injury, but Paul knew the man was unconscious and not breathing and would have died if people hadn’t placed him into a position where he could provide CPR. Risking spinal injury but in an attempt to save the mans life, the fire crew lifted the casualty onto the road where Paul administered CPR until the ambulance arrived and took over. This was a complicated incident and others where concerned about causing more injury to the man, but had Paul not reacted the way he did the man would have died due to lack of oxygen, regardless of his other injuries.
