What is the Level 3 Education and Training Course and is it for you?

Do you want to teach adults? If so, then you need to hold a Level 3 Education and Training Certificate to state that you understand teaching methods and how to teach effectively. Without this qualification, you won’t have an understanding of what makes a good lesson and course. To teach something effectively, you need to have a knowledge of the subject area you are teaching along with teaching methods.

As a teacher you have the responsibility to make sure everyone in the class enjoys the course, gets what they need out of it, is taught in an effective and clear manner and every person leaves that class feeling as though they have achieved something. Many people will have been on a badly structured course, had a poor teacher or other negative teaching experiences. This makes people reluctant to go on another course and can lead to people not recommending your training. Although you recognized that a training session was bad it can be hard to pinpoint exactly what went wrong. The Level 3 Education and Training course gives you a greater understanding of bad and good practice within a teaching environment. The course covers how to:

  • Deliver training sessions to colleagues in their own workplace
  • Use a range of different training techniques.
  • Plan sessions effectively.
  • Motivate and encourage learners.

Many people undertake this qualification as they wish to train others within their workplace without having to hire an external trainer. The course can also be used for people who teach in further education and can be used as a progressional qualification to then undertake the level 4 and 5 qualifications, however, level 3 is the minimum requirement. If you already have a higher level of teaching qualification such as a PGCE there is no need to complete the course but you must also have a knowledge of the subject area you teach. For example, all our first aid trainers must hold at least a Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification along with Level 3 Education and Training. Within the last couple of years, we have seen the PTLLS or Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector course change to the L3 EAT course or the Level 3 Education and Training course. If you already hold a PTLLS qualification, there is no need to retake the course in it’s new format as it is still valid and is virtually identical to the previous qualification. At Centaur Training we host the Level 3 Education and Training Course on specific dates throughout the year. Alternatively, you can host a training course at your venue for a minimum of 5 people.
