Manual Handling in Childcare

Programme Outline

The Manual Handling in Childcare course gives an increased knowledge and understanding of the reasons for safe manual handling procedures, regulations and legislation. The course also covers the need for manual handling risk assessments and how they relate to improving health & safety.

The programme includes information on the anatomy and physiology of the spine and manual handling principles. The course also goes into detail about the causes of back injury and related illness, hazard perception and how to reduce the risk of injury.

Aims

The aim of the Manual Handling in Childcare course is to provide the attendee with the knowledge and skills to ensure that they carry manual handling tasks safely.

Objectives

After successfully completing the course, trainees will be able to:

This programme is designed for employees within the childcare industry, where a manual handling and moving aspect is involved. Predominantly aimed at nursery staff working with the under 5’s, the course is also suitable for those in residential and community settings, where moving and handling children is a common occurrence.
